JEFF MOORE, PH.D.
Dr. Jeff Moore is the Founder of Moore FoodTech Consulting. He has more than 20 years of science and business leadership experience from food to pharma, startups to multinationals and nonprofits.
Prior to Moore FoodTech Consulting, Jeff established Bobbie Labs the R+D and product innovation center for Bobbie focused on early life nutrition. Bobbie is a VC-backed infant formula startup company on a mission to change the culture around feeding babies. Jeff led a team of scientists, innovators and business development staff along with more than 20 medical and scientific advisors at Bobbie.
Prior to Bobbie he spent 15 years and held various leadership roles at US Pharmacopeia (USP), a science-based nonprofit building trust in the quality of medicines and foods. He was the first food scientist to join USP and was instrumental in establishing the Food Chemical Codex at USP - a compendium standards for more than 1200 food ingredients. Heading USP's response to the melamine adulteration incidents, Jeff led an international team of researchers that developed several novel food integrity tools including the Food Fraud Database and guidances on Food Fraud Mitigation and Nontargeted Methods. Jeff went on to lead USP's food standards department, and co-led a business unit that commercialized USP's food integrity digital tools and services. The impact of Jeff's work in area of food integrity included shaping a new era in food fraud prevention, and the Food Fraud Database reaching more than 150,000 users including 20 of the 25 top food companies. In 2017 Jeff led the development of a long-term science and innovation strategy for USP focused on digital, new quality paradigms and analytical technologies, and community engagement. Jeff went on to operationalize one part of this strategy by establishing USP's first global scientific affairs function. This team served as the voice of science for the organization responsible to grow the organization's scientific footprint and credibility.
Before USP Jeff worked for Nestle as a food technologist. He developed more than 20 health focused food products from concept to commercialization, and led cost efficiency projects and efforts on salt and umami optimization and clean labels.
Jeff has published more than 30 peer-reviewed manuscripts in top food science journals including the most cited manuscript on food fraud, and has an h-index of 24 as of 2023. He has expertise in food ingredient test methods and specifications, food integrity, convening scientific advisory panels, food chemistry, science communication, strategy development and digital.
With roots in agriculture going back five generations Jeff grew up in Western Michigan learning first hand about food systems. He lives in the Washington DC area with his wife and two daughters. He's an avid cook, pianist and gardener.
